Church of Panagia Ekatontapiliani
During the Byzantine era in the 4th century AD, the mother of Emperor Kostantine the Great asked him to built this church as she had vowed to do so on her way to Jerusalem, to look for the Holy Cross. In the legend, the name is derived from its 100 doors and windows. We can count 99 and if ever Costantinoupole becomes Greek again the secret 100th one will appear. It is one of the most important Byzantine buildings in Greece, 1700 years old and in its present appearance was designed by Ignatios, student of Anthemios and Isidoros, the architects of Aghia Sophia of Costantinopole. Its size, the simplicity of its lines, the Baptisterion will impress you.
Butterfly Valley is 3 km from the hotel. You may visit the Nuns' very simple monastery and the new church. Go early in the evening to enjoy a magnificent view of Antiparos and one of the spectacular sunsets as the sun disappears into the blue of the sea, and the island blends into the colors of dusk.
